Tips for Personal Computer Usage

  • Keep your web browser updated. Newer browsers are constantly being deployed for increased security.
  • Install all security updates offered by your software provider(s).
  • Install a firewall on your computer.
  • Protect your computer against viruses and spyware by using anti-spyware software, anti-virus software, and automatic upgrades.
  • Schedule regular scans on your computer for malware (spyware and viruses).
  • Avoid downloading programs from unknown or suspicious sources. Some websites may have hidden forms of malware (spyware or viruses) that could compromise the security of your computer.
  • Always log out from your online banking sessions.
  • Exit from suspicious websites immediately.
  • Always confirm the validity of all requests for sensitive personal, financial, or account information.
  • Question suspicious emails. Republic Bank & Trust will never send you an email asking for your online ID or password.
  • Immediately delete any suspicious emails and refrain from opening any attachments or clicking on any links.
  • Do not click on links in email. Always copy and paste the links to the address line of your web browser. Links in emails can redirect you to malicious web sites without your knowledge.
